Hollywood Chiropractor Dr. Christine Anderson, producer of Dr. Christine Anderson’s Prenatal Yoga, has an article, Yoga and Pregnancy, published in the 2006-07 winter issue of Evolve Magazine, described as A Magazine of Evolutionary Products, People, and Ideas. Anderson, who was also a featured expert on the subject for Whole Life Times, goes through the various benefits of practicing yoga during pregnancy by breaking them down into various subjects. Comparing the preparation for child birth to training for a marathon, Anderson notes that “it makes sense to use yoga to prepare your mind, body and spirit for the labor of, well, labor” Her top-selling DVD has been praised as one of the best on the market.
The 5,000 year old discipline will not only help you breath and relax properly, but “can also strengthen and tone your body, preparing you for the physical and emotional demands for labor, childbirth and motherhood,” she says. Having taught Yoga for over 20 years, Anderson brings her medical knowledge in treating many pregnant women with chiropractics along with teaching a weekly prenatal yoga class. She advises finding a yoga class designed for expectant mothers, as some postures may be difficult or dangerous to do during pregnancy. The article breaks down the benefits as follows: Body Knowledge, Better Body Functioning, Mood Moderation, Breath of Life, Weight Management, Have a Better Birth and Posture Perfection.
