Eat organic or no spray produce to decrease exposure to pesticides which can disrupt hormones.
Eliminate animal products such as dairy and meat which provide 80 to 90% daily dioxin intake. Dioxin causes immunity to lower, may cause endometriosis, or change thyroid function. Dioxin can cause a failure to ovulate, increased miscarriage, and overall decreased fertility; it is a hormone disrupting chemical.
Meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products also contain arachadonic acid, a precursor to prostaglandin 2 (PGE2), which causes inflammation and suppresses the immune system. PGE2 can also impair the function of the corpus luteum, affecting progesterone production in the beginning of pregnancy.
Check your water for hormone disrupting chemicals, especially atrazine and dacthal-if they are present, other chemicals are too.
Avoid fish. They contain high levels of mercury and other heavy metals, especially tuna and other fatty fish.
Avoid additives, such as aspartame and MSG. MSG is sometimes hidden in “natural flavors”, hydrolyzed protein, and other verbage.
Eliminate alcohol. Alcohol can elevate prolactin levels which inhibits ovulation. There is a 50% reduction in pregnancy rates if alcohol is consumed within 24 hours of trying to conceive. Eliminate caffeine. Women who drink 1 cup of coffee per day are half as likely to conceive as those who consume no coffee.
Avoid these herbs: ginger, basil, caraway seeds, fenugreek, flax seed, fresh horse radish, licorice, marjoram, nutmeg, fresh rosemary, savory tarragon, watercress.
Avoid excessive Vitamin C. It acts as an antihistamine and dries up cervical mucus.
Eat tofu and soy (not processed soy products!), kelp, whole grains, walnuts, and wheat germ. Eat wild yams, or take a supplement during the follicular phase. Improve thyroid function with kelp, almonds, and wheat germ. Avoid peanuts, pine nuts, cabbage, mustard, sulfites or turnips if your thyroid levels are low.
To prevent miscarriage consume protein, magnesium (alfalfa is a great source), wheat germ, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, kelp, dandelion leaves and sources of iron like: leafy green veggies, prune juice, molasses, legumes, nettle, dandelion leaves. Don’t take iron supplements!!!
Prevent birth defects: Folic acid sources: leafy greens and veggies, DHA: algae source of omega-3 fatty acids.
Do NOT use Plastics! Especially don’t use them in the microwave. The firmer the plastic the better it is to use. Use water bottles from the health food store that don’t contain allyl phenols, which are hormone disrupting chemicals. Exposure can also affect fertility of unborn child.
DO NOT use over the counter and prescription drugs such as aspirin, non steroidal/anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Aleve, antihistamines, decongestants, oral antibiotics, and antidepressants (consult your MD). These may inhibit ovulation, affect cervical fluid, or cause placental bleeding.
Find ways to relieve stress. Stress attracts production of FSH and LH.
Chart your fertility! Have sex before ovulation for the best chance of conception! Fertility awareness monitoring (FAM) helps determine when you’re ovulating by fertile fluid. By the time the temperature shifts or ovulation predictor registers, it’s too late!
